Mythological artifacts become a modern arsenal in a millennia-long interstellar battle. On one side stands the alien race that styled itself as gods to secretly steer human evolution. On the other is an elite team of Area 51 commandos, dedicated to freeing humanity from their interstellar overlords.

Special Forces officer Mike Turcotte and his former lover Lisa Duncan are among the few who know the truth about the extraterrestrial threat - and have the power to fight it. But can they save the human race from eradication or just act as pawns in an elaborate plot to enslave the planet?

Having just retrieved the legendary sword Excalibur - in actuality the control key to an alien mother ship - from atop Mount Everest, Turcotte rejoins the fight, intent on ending the ancient, bloody conflict once and for all. Yet even as he tries to avert a nuclear holocaust, a deadlier, more insidious alien foe hides in the shadows, waiting for the chance to alert its kind that Earth is ripe for conquest.

This series is high quality sci fi, with pretty good editing and a nice flow from scene to scene. I was used to the Tom Clancy style of abrupt changes, but Bob Mayer's transitions are much smoother and somewhat more logical. He's kind enough to spend time orienting readers who pick up this book without having read the earlier parts of the series, but for those of us who have read the series from the beginning, it just means we have to skip large sections at the beginning. Some sections are pretty gruesome, so I wouldn't recommend this book for younger teens, but the story keeps you reading to find out if humans have victory over seemingly impossible odds. If the author ever reads these reviews, I would suggest a more rigorous editor...I have an extreme sensitivity to misused words, dangling participles, and repetitive analogies, so the prose would be less jarring if some of these problems were addressed. "The Truth" is the end of the actual series, though there are follow-on novels that pick up some of the themes developed here. If it were the best of all worlds, we would have a couple more follow-on novels in this series, because we all know that powerful species who are light years ahead of us won't just take "no" for a permanent answer.

The Truth Area 51 Book 7 (Audible Audio Edition) Bob Mayer Eric G Dove Brilliance Audio Books Reviews

I have been following this series along for some time now, this being the seventh volume. It is unashamedly an alien invasion, 'the truth is out there,' kind of story that makes no excuses for itself. As a result, the series has always managed to be a pleasant read even when the plot occasionally degenerates into a bit of paranoid silliness. After all, that is what makes this genre click. If a paranoid alien plot story is not what you want, consider yourself warned.
For most of the volumes, this one included, the primary secret enemy is an alien race called the Airlia. They have been on the earth for some 10,000 years, happily manipulating human events to suit their own needs. In fact, it turns out that there are two groups of Airlia in conflict with each other. Moreover, as 'The Truth' reveals there are even more fish in the stew than the Airlia and their minions. It seems that every time this series uncovers an artifact - the Ark, the Grail, Excalibur, there is another alien race hiding underneath of it.
In this final volume, the series 'hero,' Mike Turcotte, and his band of cohorts must rush about, cleaning up loose ends, solving mysteries, and saving the Earth. Rushing about is a bit of an understatement, as Mike starts out on the top of Mount Everest, jumping to safety, and ends on Mars with a final struggle to stop the Airlia (and others) from phoning home and asking for help. In between are the obligatory stops to Area 51, Stonehenge, and the Gulf of Mexico. Yes, 'The Truth' does, grudgingly, part with the truth - the last piece of the puzzle. But this is an anti-climax after all the thundering action that goes before.
In something this action oriented, it would be foolish to expect a lot of character development. In fact, Doherty spends the time to create good two-dimensional characters, and that is much more than many other authors in this genre feel obliged to provide. The only thing that has ever really irritated me about this series is that Doherty's narrative has a habit of jumping around in space and time. I have a reasonable tolerance for the chaos of a flashback driven narrative, but after seven volumes, this particular plot device wears a bit thin. Be warned that this series needs to be read in order it is going to make a lot of sense. Fortunately, it is well written enough to be enjoyable throughout.
Reading Area 51 books with Truth being the last one was like being on vacations and travelling through some magic islands so captivating and wonderful that story is.

Aliens on Earth, people trying to find the truth about where we came from, that fairy-tale of a story spinning across millenia gives most unusual answers to eternal questions about mankind history - books like Area 51 is something which is needed to let our minds travel away from often harsh reality of today's life.

Really grateful to Bob Mayer for his imagination and talent!
As expected The Truth does not disappoint in action and cliffhangers. The Truth wraps up the multiple story lines well and finally uncovers what has been slowing revealed throughout the series. Looking back the series it has been a fun ride watching the original nugget of the story slowly being peeled back to incorporate so much of the ancient world, historical figures, concepts, etc... into the expanding story. I noted in the headline "Conclusion" because there are still two more books in the series that are set in the Area 51 universe but at least the next book, Nosferatu, which I am currently reading is revealing another part of the saga with a different set of characters.
I stayed up way too late last night because I had to know the Truth. Totally worth it! Bob is a great storyteller and a prolific writer. Ignore any and all one star reviews and assume those people were having a bad day. If you like to binge read series, Bob has several that will not let you down. This book cost $1.99 for the version. Fans should be sending this dude a pizza and two liter every Friday night to show their appreciation )
I have loved SiFy books since 6th grade (SC now) - Started reading book one while on Vacation and had finished book 3 before the vacation was over. So many twists and turns, It is a great read. Must admit I didn't yet read the last book as I was sort of boycotting the entity that he writes about in that book at the time. Must go back and find out what he did as I know he will surprise me. The interesting thing I found was that what he writes and how he tells this story - it could actually have happened that way . . . it makes you wonder. If it bothers you to have the things you believe in stomped-on . . beware . . Doherty has an imagination that is off the wall.
